I'm going to start by putting it right out there, I am a major overpacker! When I'm on vacation I usually just wear shorts, crop tops, bathing suits and sundresses. But usually I have waaaaay more then what I really need. So in this post I've rounded up some tips on how to "detox" the clothing you bring to your relaxing, stylish vacation, wherever it may be.
1: Check the weather. You don't want to pack shorts and a t-shirt if it's going to be 10 degrees! Also always pack a few warmer items, because you never know what could happen!
2: Only pack what you need. Yes, you can live without a third pair of Versace heels! (Or Kohls heels, if your me). If you really need to cut down use the 5,4,3,2,1 rule. 5 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 accessories, 2 pairs of shoes and 1 bathing suit (but if you are just starting on your clothing detox, you can double these stats)
3: Will you be shopping? Ask yourself this, or pack an extra suitcase, because let me tell you, there are some kick-ass sales abroad! I'm going to promise you, you will need to buy an extra bag to carry all that fab! So please, do not over pack for this reason!
4: Do your research! What activities will you be doing? Hiking? Canoeing? Or just lounging by the pool? Always pack according to your plans. That sounds so obvious but you would be surprised by the amount of people that arrive at a destination totally unprepared.
Useful Tidpits
-Roll your clothes! It saves soooo much space.
-Please don't wear a sweatsuit! Please, please try to put a little effort in, even just trade the sweatshirt for a blazer or even a chunky knit sweater. Because if there is a girl in a j-crew blazer and a girl with "Canadian Eh?" Sweater on, guess who is getting the upgrade.
-Pack liquid or cream items in a towel in case they get cracked or spill.
-Remember to pack base items. Tanks, tee's and jeans are all great, also lot's of undergarments, they are hard to buy in the Zimbabwe airport!
-Also double the use of your beauty items. Lipstick can also be used as cream blush and bronzer can be used as a copper or nude shimmer eyeshadow. Also cream eyeshadow in a champagne or white can be used as a hi lighter.
